This I Believe
I believe in knowledge, in the knowing and understanding of things, and gathering information. I believe that everything dedicates its self to knowledge, whether it is going to school, learning different subjects, studying, and even asking questions. Things outside of school also contribute to knowledge like camping, or even looking at bugs. I believe that knowledge leads to careers and better lifestyles. That it leads to money and it affects your whole lifetime. Whether you are a cook or archeologist, you need knowledge. You even take your knowledge and pass it to other generations like a teacher informing its students, or a parent telling its child information.
Knowledge can even help you learn about people and their culture. But without knowledge, you don’t know about people, and may become prejudice and that can lead to problems like racism, hate, and ignorance. I think that knowledge takes a big role in how we treat each other and that leads to respect. This relates to IB studies like in school so that we can learn about each other. I think knowledge really relates to Exhibition because we learn who we are.

My moms side of the family is mostly from pennsylvania and my grandmother is related to Davy Crockett!!! My Dads side of the family is from Hungary, Germany, England and a few other places. My mom is Korean and i am part Korean.

How I learned about the Tooth Fairy
“Eeek” I squealed as I found a green, crisp one dollar bill in replace of my tooth. Every time my tooth was loose I plucked it out and looked forward to this moment. I lifted up my pillow more and even found a little note. “Wow!” I thought, “The Fairy wrote something special for me!” I unfolded it and started reading (by the way I was 7) “Dear Skye, thank you for letting me have your tooth! I hope you let me come again and use your dollar wisely!” I smiled and scanned back over the letter again. “Wait a second” I said in my mind as I began to see the wacky handwriting. Curly T’s and connected O’s, swurvy G’s and a little drawn fairy in the top. My mind began to ponder “Could this be the Tooth Fairy’s actual handwriting?” “Could someone else have written this letter?” But for then, I sat the note on my desk and plopped the money in my piggy bank.
“Skye, go in your room. There’s a special note” my sister and her friend said as they chuckled under their breath. I didn’t know what was so funny so I went to my bed and found a note lying there. It was the days after I had lost my tooth. “Yay!” I thought as I read the letter that was in the same tooth fairy handwriting. But I was completely shocked when I reached the end “From your sister: Maya.” “Oh no!” I thought. This couldn’t be true. “The tooth fairy is not real” I muttered under my breath in complete shock.

When Did You Learn That Life Isnt Always Fair?
The day my older sister got a shiny new bike from Academy was the day that I started getting jealous. It was like that whenever my sister got something: I would get something old of hers or not good looking and she would get a brand new one. For example, on Christmas, she got a brown dress, with ruffles and laces complete with nice black shoes, while I got a shirt with teapots. I always asked my dad if I could ever get something nice and brand new but he kept replying “Life isn’t fair Skye” or “Think about it that you are getting something new” or “Saves money.
The knowing of my parents getting divorced especially shocked me. I couldn’t stop thinking of how unfair it was, only seeing the face of one parent at a time over days, weeks? It hurt me deep inside knowing that my parents can’t be together or when they fought. I even wished before I went to sleep that my parents would get back together, but I knew it wouldn’t happen. But going through these issues, hearing my father’s words, I realized that life isn’t always fair.
My Bestowal Item
“We’re going to get a special treat” my grandma said to my sister and I as my mom drove to this “place.” My sister and I looked at each other wondering where we were going when at last, we appeared in front of a building, “Build a Bear.”
This was complete heaven for a five year old as we opened the door to the building. My face lit up as I saw everywhere lined with toys and bright colors. The animals waved hello as I looked around. A lady with a blue shirt and khaki pants assisted us and told my sister and I to put on these bright colored neon yellow helmets. “Are you guys ready to build your bear?” she asked us in a cheery manner. ”Yeah!” we replied as we headed through a door.
“First” the lady instructed, “you must pick the animal you want.” “When you have picked your animal, let me know.” The room was lined with stuffed bears, bunnies, owls, cats, and dogs. My sister choose a dark brown bear while I was suddenly appealed to a snow white rabbit. This was the perfect look for my animal.
“Next” the lady told us,” I am going to fill your animal with stuffing.” She led us to a machine with cotton as soft as a cloud inside. She handed us each a bead heart and told us” whisper a wish or saying of how you love your animal. This wish or saying will be in your animal forever. Me, being mesmerized by what she said, took the cold metal bead, cupped it in my hands, held it up to my mouth, and whispered very softly, “I love you” and handed the bead to the lady. My sister had finished too and had also handed the bead to the lady. “Ok! We are ready to stuff the animals!” once again said in a cheery tone. We headed over to two machines (plastic by the way) that were filled to the max with snowy white cotton. “So, you want the rabbit and you want the bear” she said pointing at us as we nodded our heads. She took our animals and placed them each under the machine. EEEEEEERRRRR! The machine said as it filled the animals. When the animals were half filled in each, she placed the little metal heart beads in each, and filled up the rest of the animal. She handed us our stuffed animals and said, “Okay! Now you’re ready to dress your animals!’
We headed through a red door and I saw row by row shirts, pants, gowns, belts, shoes, socks, hats, necklaces, and jewelry. My sister and I looked at each other in an excited way and rushed to the clothes, skimming, touching, and even smelling the clothes. Finally, I came to a silky white wedding dress with a veil and white shoes. This was perfect for the animal since it was white itself. I carried the clothes to the lady. “Is that your choice?” I nodded my head. “How beautiful!” she replied. At the same time my sister brought up an outfit and we carried our new animals to the checkout. As my grandma paid, my mother asked “Did you have fun?” I nodded my head up and down while combing my fingers through the hair of the rabbit, completely enjoying my new treat.
